This birdbath was inspired by a 100 years old English birdbath. The Greek ‘key design’ along the side of the bowl is a reflection of the Victorian European’s love affair with anything from ancient Greece. Don’t worry about the cracks and blemishes, they are there to add character and will not effect the structural integrity of the piece.

Dionysos, the Greek God of wine and son of the all powerful Zeus, was the subject of much worship in ancient Greece. On the base of this original candlestick, fauns carry fruit and press grapes, whilst listening to the joyous music of the double flute. The ancient ruin theme of this piece will add beauty and conversation to any deck or living area.

Mermaids, in folklore are supernatural, sea-dwelling creatures with the head and upper body of a beautiful women and the lower body of a fish. Many a travelled sailor has brought back tales of being enchanted by their beauty. In this original birdbath by Kelly Godel, we see all the members of a Mer family, happy in the knowledge that they won't be disturbed by human presence. Mermaids were immortalized by Hans Christian Anderson's famous 1837 novel, The Little Mermaid.

They symbolized ancient liberality; Aglaia was the sister who gave away, Euphrosyne who received, and Thalia who gave back. Throughout the years their subject matter has been very popular with artists, including here in the form of an ancient birdbath.

KOI BOWL The Koi is a member of the carp family of fish. Carp have long been kept and bred as pets in many civilizations. The ancient Romans kept them in ponds and fountains and bred the ancestors of today's common Goldfish. In China, they are recognized as good luck symbols. The colorful Koi carp available today are the result of a strain first bred 160 years ago in Japan from a naturally occurring mutation. The word Koi actually translates to "carp" in Japanese. Inspired by Japanese tsukubai (a hand-washing bowl used in tea ceremonies), this Koi bowl will allow you to keep Koi, without having to worry about pesky predators.

Gallé Birdbath

Emile Gallé (1846-1904) was one of the foremost figures of the French Art Nouveau movement. He began his working career as apprentice to his father, a studio glassmaker. By 1884 he had developed his unique Art Nouveau style and was supplying studio glass to, among others, the Parisian shop "L’Art Nouveau", (source of the movement’s namesake). He produced many forms of art glass and later furniture, but is perhaps best known for his overlaid cameo pieces of unusual design and exquisite quality. These pieces now command vast sums at auctions. In this series of planters and birdbaths by Marie Michon, we have endeavored to reproduce some of his finer work.
