Perennial bestsellers, we offer many designs of unique and original birdbaths. As a rule of thumb, birdbath tops should not be exposed to freezing when they have water in the bowls as the ice will expand and may crack the piece. We therefore recommend taking the top inside during times when freezing is expected, covering it so it won’t collect water or simply removing it and placing it on its side. The base is fine to leave outside year-round.

Birdbath themes include slate, butterflies, dragonflies, hummingbirds, frogs, fish, classic, Art Deco and Art Nouveau. Some birdbath designs match benches and other statuary.

Art Deco Birdbath - Large

Art Deco Birdbath – Large

This original birdbath, designed by master sculptor Klaus Kinast, was inspired by imagery from the influential Art Deco design style.

This style first emerged in France in the 1920s and was the predominant design trend during the interwar years. This was a period of rapid industrialization and development in machinery. Gone were the organic flowing lines and images based on nature found in the preceding Art Nouveau period and now popular were sharp geometric, symmetrical lines and motifs. The Art Deco influence can be seen in decorative objects, automobiles and fashion but perhaps most dramatically in architecture; think of the unique spires found on the Chrysler Building in New York City.

Classic Birdbath, stained concrete bird bath for outdoor garden or patio

Classic Birdbath

This birdbath was inspired by a 100 years old English birdbath. The Greek ‘key design’ along the side of the bowl is a reflection of the Victorian European’s love affair with anything from ancient Greece.  Don’t worry about the cracks and blemishes, they are there to add character and will not effect the structural integrity of the piece.

There is something about frogs that appeals to people. We do, however, lose the desire to search ponds and other froggy type dwellings.

Galle Birdbath dragonfly garden

Gallé Birdbath

Emile Gallé (1846-1904) was one of the foremost figures of the French Art Nouveau movement. He began his working career as apprentice to his father, a studio glassmaker. By 1884 he had developed his unique Art Nouveau style and was supplying studio glass to, among others, the Parisian shop “L’Art Nouveau”, (source of the movement’s namesake). He produced many forms of art glass and later furniture, but is perhaps best known for his overlaid cameo pieces of unusual design and exquisite quality. These pieces now command vast sums at auctions. In this series of planters and birdbaths by Marie Michon, we have endeavored to reproduce some of his finer work.

Koi Bowl, stained concrete bird bath for outdoor garden or patio

Koi Bowl

The Koi is a member of the carp family of fish. Carp have long been kept and bred as pets in many civilizations. The ancient Romans kept them in ponds and fountains and bred the ancestors of today’s common Goldfish. In China, they are recognized as good luck symbols. The colorful Koi carp available today are the result of a strain first bred 160 years ago in Japan from a naturally occurring mutation. The word Koi actually translates to “carp” in Japanese. Inspired by Japanese tsukubai (a hand-washing bowl used in tea ceremonies), this Koi bowl will allow you to keep Koi, without having to worry about pesky predators.
